Rock Hall Man Charged with Firing Rifle at Working Waterman

A man from Rock Hall faces assault and firearm charges after police say he fired his rifle at a commercial waterman in Herrington Creek.

67-year-old John Steimer Jr. admitted to firing his semi-automatic rifle from his yard at the unnamed waterman. Maryland Natural Resources Police (NRP) say the rounds struck the waterman’s trotline buoy several times and sank it.

No one was injured, and there were no other boats in the vicinity. NRP is investigating the motive, and whether there was any kind of dispute.

Steimer is charged with assault, use of a firearm during the commission of a felony crime and reckless endangerment.
