Nearly every county in Maryland and Virginia is hosting a special 250th Anniversary celebration this week. But most towns continue the festivities well past July 4.
In Maryland, National Harbor is the setting for a summer-long list of activities, such as live music, outdoor movies and markets.
Annapolis holds a parade, live music, historical reenactments, family-friendly storytelling and fireworks.
Prince Georges County is commemorating the occasion with genealogical workshops, bike tours and a community block party.

In Virginia, a VA250 mobile museum travels around the State to bring a hands-on, interactive museum experience to schools, local events and fairs.
Family-friendly activities and a naturalization ceremony will take place June 4 at Monticello in Alexandria.
PBS will broadcast live from Williamsburg on July 4, where tens of thousands are expected to gather to celebrate in the capital city of revolutionary Virginia.
