Police Search for Information About Man Found Dead in Annapolis Creek Near Kayak Launch

A man’s body has been found in the water at a community kayak ramp in Annapolis and the circumstances of his death are still not clear. Police are asking anyone with information to come forward.

On Sunday, Aug. 10, around 10 a.m., Maryland Department of Natural Resources Police (NRP) tell us they received a report of a body in the water. It was found near the Hillsmere Shores community kayak launch on Duvall Creek.

The Anne Arundel Fire Department arrived and recovered the body of a 51-year-old man from Annapolis, who is not being identified at this time. On shore, NRP officers found personal possession and a backpack belonging to the man.

The NRP is investigating the man’s death. Police spokesman Hunter Dortenzo says police are looking for anyone with information about activity at the kayak launch between the evening of Saturday, Aug. 9 and the morning of Sunday, Aug. 10. Please contact investigators at 410-260-8888.

An autopsy is being done at the Chief Medical Examiner’s office in Baltimore. Chesapeake Bay Magazine will update this story with new information as we learn it.
