ShoreRivers is again deploying a team of scientists in the community to monitor bacteria levels at popular swimming and boating sites to provide human health risk information.
Samples taken by the team are processed and analyzed according to standard scientific protocols in ShoreRivers’ in-house labs. The results are made public each week. Posted every Friday between Memorial Day and Labor Day, the findings are available in English and Spanish.
For English, go to shore rivers.org/swim. For Spanish, shore rivers.org/swimmable-shorerivers-espanol.
Weekly results and descriptions of testing sites can also be found at theswimguide.org.
Nearly 70 SwimTesters will monitor 55 sites on the Choptank, Miles, Wye, Chester and Sassafras Rivers; eastern Bay and the Bayside Creeks.
“We all want to be able to spend our summer connecting with our rivers and creeks, and to know that the data shows that our families are safe while they do so,” says Becky Golden, Watershed Scientist at ShoreRivers.
ShoreRivers is a nonprofit 501(c)3 organization based in Easton, MD that seeks to protect Maryland’s Eastern Shore waterways through science-based advocacy, restoration, education and engagement.
