You are invited to come and watch an episode of TV host Joe Lamp’l’s award-winning “Growing a Greener World,” in which he chats with entomologist Doug Tallamy about how we are starving important insects, birds, and beneficial creatures by favoring extensive lawns and exotic plants. Tallamy and horticulturist Rick Darke suggest steps that we can each take right in our own backyards to save intricate local ecosystems and bring nature home. Steps include the growing trend to shrink the lawn and install native plants.
In the Coaching Workshop and at Habitat Conversation Stations that follow, Master Gardener volunteers will share their experiences creating more sustainable backyard habitats with less lawn and more natives. Discussions will touch on residential landscape situations that include sunny open areas and septic fields, sunny areas for food production, shady areas, small bed expansions, and whole yard makeovers.
A “Kaffee Klatsch” with complimentary desserts caps the program, presented for the second year by Talbot County Master Gardeners and hosted by CBMM.
