The Hike: Celebrate Leap Day with a 15- or 19-mile, go-at-your-own-pace hike along a nearby, but uncrowded portion of the C &O Canal Towpath. Option 1 (recommended for those training for the ODH 100K): Longer hike…Start at Pennyfield Lock (MM 19.6) hike north; turn around, go past Pennyfield, then turn around once more, returning to Pennyfield (total about 19 miles). Option 2: Slightly shorter hike (recommended for those training for the ODH 50K)…Start at Pennyfield Lock and turn around earlier twice for a total of about 15 miles. Wear sturdy, comfortable shoes/boots, bring water, pack a lunch and snacks.
