Helicopter Crashes into Bay Near Bloody Point, Two Missing

Bay Bulletin has learned that a helicopter crashed into the Chesapeake Bay about a mile south of Kent Island on Saturday afternoon. Crews are searching for the two men that were on board.

The two-seat helicopter went down around 12:30 p.m. off Bloody Point. Maryland Natural Resources Police (NRP) responded along with the U.S. Coast Guard, NTSB, FAA, Queen Anne’s County Fire Department, Talbot County Fire Department, Anne Arundel County Fire Department, and Kent Island Volunteer Fire Department.

The Coast Guard launched a 29-foot Response Boat-Small crew from Coast Guard Station Annapolis and a boat crew with Coast Guard Auxiliary Flotilla.

There’s no word so far on the cause, or whether the crash was weather-related. USCG says at the time of the crash, conditions were reported as five to ten knot winds, one-foot seas and a water temperature of 62 degrees.

If anyone sees anything in the water south of Kent Island, the Coast Guard asks that they contact the Sector Maryland-National Capital Region on VHF-FM channel 16 or at 410-576-2525.
