Solomons' Rich History on Display in New Sunset Supper Cruises

The Calvert Marine Museum has come up with a most civilized way to learn the history of the Solomons, Maryland waterfront.

On a handful of Saturday evenings this summer, you can come aboard the the Wm. B Tennison for a 90-minute guided cruise to learn about Solomons' boat-building tradition, the World War II Amphibious Training Base, and the old steamboat wharfs that were prevalent in the town.

Jeffrey Murray, Deputy Director of the museum, calls the cruise a "sideways glance" at the area's history.

"There are lighthouses, sunken submarines, and a “ghost fleet” of passenger liners to learn about!" he says. "All in all, a very fun and relaxing way to explore our local heritage."

The cruise comes complete with appetizers, and when the Tennison returns to the dock, participants will take in a short presentation and a light supper from No Thyme to Cook. Guests are welcome to "BYOB" with a favorite bottle.

The Sunset Supper Cruises will be Saturdays June 2, August 4, and September 1 from 5- 7:30 p.m. Tickets are $50. To reserve a spot, call 410-326-2042, ext. 41 or emailing Melissa.McCormick@calvertcountymd.gov.
