$1 Admission This Summer at The Mariners' Museum and Park

Memorial Day through Labor Day, visitors can explore The Mariners’ Museum and Park in Newport News for just $1 per person.

The promotion, which the Museum says is an effort to unite and engage more people through the celebration of maritime heritage, is back for its third summer. In 2016 and 2017, the admission promotion was responsible for a significant bump in attendance.

The City of Newport News and Newport News Shipbuilding helped make this year’s reduced admission possible.

Over the summer, the Museum will seek to engage visitors through conversation, interactive activities, and programs for the whole family including historical interpreters, Lego shipbuilding, scavenger hunts, and artifacts not typically on display.

Current exhibitions at the Museum include the USS Monitor Center, Speed and Innovation in the America’s Cup, the International Small Craft Center, and the Ship Model Gallery. Visitors will also be able to learn about Hampton Roads during World War I in the exhibition Answering America’s Call: Newport News in World War I, which will run May 19 through December.

The Mariners’ Museum and Park President and CEO Howard Hoege says there’s no wrong way to check out all the Museum has to offer. “Our community has turned out in a big way over the past two summers – popping in for an hour to see an exhibit or two, or spending the day with us: on the Noland Trail in the morning, lunch in the cafe, and the galleries and a movie in the afternoon. We have even seen a number of people bring their family and friends from out-of-town to see our world-class collection.”
