Gift a Tree for the Public to Enjoy

If you’re out of gift ideas for that special someone this holiday season, consider giving an honorary tree.

The Maryland Department of Natural Resources (DNR) Gift of Trees program allows Marylanders to buy a native tree in honor of a person or celebration, to be planted in 2019. All trees will be planted in locations that will benefit from them the most, including parks, playgrounds and schoolyards; cities and towns; and along creeks and streams, as determined by the Maryland Forest Service.

When you order a tree, a “Gift of Trees” certificate will be mailed out within a week or two, that you can frame for the recipient. Orders must be in by Saturday, December 15 so that you can get your certificate in time for Christmas.

Trees enhance air and water quality, reduce energy costs, increase property values, provide essential habitat for birds and other animals, and of course, make communities more beautiful.
