Fells Point Hotel Best in the U.S., per Conde Nast Traveler
The Sagamore Pendry Hotel, on Baltimore’s Fells Point waterfront, is the best hotel in the country, according to Conde Nast Traveler readers.
The travel magazine got about 429,000 responses to its 2018 Readers’ Choice Awards survey, and the Pendry took the top spot among its 10 Best Hotels in the U.S. The Baltimore luxury property beat out hotels like the Waldorf-Astoria Beverly Hills (ranked 6th) and the Viceroy Hotel Chicago (a measly 10th).
The hotel, which opened in 2017, is on Fells Point’s Recreation Pier, a historic landmark on Baltimore’s waterfront. The building sat empty for almost 20 years, and was used in filming the Baltimore-based crime TV show, Homicide: Life on the Streets.
Under Armour CEO Kevin Plank backed the project, which is Pendry Hotels’ first East Coast property. The hotel faces cobblestone-paved Thames Street, and its facade keeps the look of the Rec Pier. But the guest rooms are in a newly-built addition over the pier’s original footprint.
According to Conde Nast Traveler, that “gives the place a bolted-together feel but also supremely comfortable guest rooms that aren’t jig-sawed into a historic building.”
The hotel’s showstopping pier juts out into the harbor. The Andrew Carmellini Rec Pier Chop House restaurant is onsite, along with a small whiskey bar called The Cannon Room. There is a Baltimore Water Taxi stop just to its west.
Says Conde Nast Traveler, “The Pendry’s probably one of the best places to stay in Baltimore right now—and if you’re coming for nightlife and dining, this is the perfect place to be.”
Sagamore Pendry’s website advertises special access to its amenities for boaters who tie up:
“Guests of Sagamore Pendry Baltimore can now dock their boats, stay and play! Stay on your boat overnight at our 100′ private dock and enjoy access to our acclaimed restaurants and harbor-side pool. Enjoy a picnic brunch from the comforts of your craft or reserve lunch in one of our five private poolside cabanas.”
The hotel says docking is limited to 100’ boats. To find out more about bringing your boat, call 443-552-1400.
