2 Boats Destroyed, 2 Damaged in Marina Fire on North East River

Multiple boats were damaged or destroyed and a dog was killed in a fire Monday at the Charlestown Marina, along the North East River in Cecil County, Maryland.

The fire broke out along a covered dock and spread rapidly, according to Mike Walsh of the Charlestown Fire Company. Two boats were a total loss and two others were damaged, along with part of the dock.

A dog lost its life aboard one of the boats. That boat, according to Walsh, was a live-aboard, and BoatUS found three space heaters inside, but officials haven’t ruled on a cause. No one else was injured. The fire marshal is waiting for the boat to be pulled from the water before beginning the investigation.

Charlestown Fire Company fought the fire with help from other departments in Cecil and Harford Counties. Charlestown’s new fire boat, which Bay Bulletin told you about here back in August, was the only marine unit on the scene.
