$21 Million from Chesapeake Bay Trust Fund up for Grabs

The Maryland Department of Natural Resources is looking to give away $21 million in funding to nonprofit organizations and local governments who will use the money to improve water quality.

The Chesapeake and Atlantic Coastal Bays Trust Fund provides the funding. Maryland DNR is targeting local projects aimed at “reducing nonpoint source pollution caused by excess nutrients and sediment.”

The Trust Fund has directed more than $400 million to over 2,100 projects, and it has supported 2,200 jobs. Governor Larry Hogan has fully funded the program for two years in a row.

“The Trust Fund focuses on shovel-ready projects that achieve the greatest environmental benefit at the best cost,” Natural Resources Secretary Mark Belton said. “The program work with our partners in local governments and nonprofits to maximize benefits, targeting funds geographically, engaging communities and holding everyone accountable to the results.”

If your organization or town is interested in appling for funding in Fiscal Year 2019, the Maryland DNR asks for letters of intent to be submitted by January 19, 2018, and full proposals are due March 30. Awards will be announced by July. To submit a letter of intent, click here.
